Boom Boom Blues Box - 1970

Sculpture (Interactive)

painted wooden cigar box, dowels and pull knobs

Dimensions: 2.5” x 8.5” x 9”

Collection: Private collection

The original idea behind this box was to create a painting. I had been making a series of paintings that were an attempt to understand the work of Robert Irwin. I thought It would be interesting to paint bands of colour on each of the wooden dowels and allow the viewer to have the opportunity of composing their own painting. After applying the primer to the dowels I realized that piece was finished. I think of this as my first “real” piece.
