As you have probably realized, I am not a great writer. My hand and mind do not work in sync. I do love words and books.

My refuge at UBC was the Fine Arts LIbrary. Not really knowing or having experience seeing real works I took solace in books about art. I was excited at the possibility of being part of this conversation.

I was enrolled in a class taught by the chief librarian Melva Dwyer. She loved books and the library. She was very demanding. She gave us an assignment to do a book review. She assigned me to review a book written in Russian. All I could think to say was this book was “well-spaced”. I came to use that expression for a pop up book I made.
