The Line - That Moment - 2019

A collaboration with Jared Raab

Video Installation

Dimensions: Variable

Edition: 3

Collection: artist (add to cART)

This 2 screen video installation was a for Nuit Blanche in 2019.

The screen is double sided and each side shows a slightly different version of two individuals jamboning.

Jam boning is a musician using his body to produce sound. Facing each other the two players at times play together in a call and response mode. Their performance escalates to a point where it is unclear whether they are playing or in combat. The premise being: when does a pat (on the shoulder) become a slap. The video was shot and exhibited in a decommissioned abattoir.

That Moment is a video that is that moment we realize our capacity and ability to create and/or destroy. That Moment when something transitions from being a creative act to one of destruction. That Moment we become conscious, aware that our thoughts and actions have implications and consequences.

How do we arrive at That Moment? What is that realization? What choices and responsibilities does the moment present and how do we move through the world from that moment on? The video  employs the visual and acoustical properties of hambone and body percussion to develop, explore and examine when and how something transitions from one thing or state to another. When does a touch move from being a loving caress to a painful slap. What is That Moment when a hand game like paper, scissors, rock moves from a playful encounter to a confrontation experience.
