Really I am at a loss what to say about these hats and the paintings of this period. I was working at the Vancouver Art Gallery. I had found a house to rent. I was living with Jean Blodgett and I was making hats and hearts. I

Was I searching - it seems weird when I think about it now as Boom Boom and the Balloon Box were such strong statements. Yet here I was focused on what I would call lighter less serious works.
